1. What experience or person encouraged you to be an entrepreneur?

My father first and foremost. He’s been an entrepreneur for a very long time and being able to learn from him always inspired me to do the same. I was also fortunate to work with a variety of wonderful founders and companies given my prior career as an investor.

2. What has been your biggest challenge in being an entrepreneur/startup?

I believe the biggest challenge is prioritizing the most important aspects of the business for the milestones you are hoping to achieve. As an early-stage company, there is so much to do, yet so little time and few hands to do it. Prioritizing the highest return on investment items (and time management more broadly) are instrumental to successful execution.

3. What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of taking the plunge into entrepreneurism. Stepping out of your comfort zone and “into the arena” isn’t easy, however it has been one of the most rewarding and self-fulfilling experiences. I’m also extremely proud of our team who made that possible.

Dan Couvreur, Co-Founder and Co-CEO

Before starting Tandem, Dan began his career in Investment Banking at Citigroup, fell in love with fintech through Citi Ventures, and was an early member of the partnerships team at Better.com.

1. What experience or person encouraged you to be an entrepreneur?

We're solving a problem we experience in our daily lives - expense sharing for couples shouldn't be difficult and we're passionate about creating the easiest way to manage money together.

2. What has been your biggest challenge in being an entrepreneur/startup?

As two non-technical founders, our biggest challenge is ensuring we're recruiting and building a best-in-class engineering team.

3. What are you most proud of?

Building Tandem with our partners - Brian (Michelle's fiancé) and Hannah (my partner) have been essential to building an incredible product for our users, and they've helped us enjoy the entrepreneurial journey along the way.
